The Tacoma School of the Arts (SOTA) Partners was started as a non-profit 501(c)3 in 2002 by Jon Ketler. We currently support two Tacoma schools, The Tacoma School of the Arts (SOTA) and The Science and Math Institute (SAMI). Access to the same accredited high quality arts instruction is available to all Tacoma Public School students for credit through an after school program created in partnership with Metro Parks. The SOTA Partners work with students, educators and the community to integrate learning with the South Sound through five key programs:
- Adjunct Artist/Instructor program – utilizing adjunct instructors to teach classes, mentor students, and work alongside certified teachers to incorporate traditional subjects into the study and practice of their professional field.
- Connections – a forum of regular community gatherings of parents and community members to discuss issues about learning and schools
- Bridges -- pairing students of all abilities in classroom and tutoring settings – bridging learning gaps through peer teaching.
- Scholarships – helping students gain access to education and opportunities
- Community Science and Art programs – Classes, camps, and performances open to the public
